The short answer
CoolVantage HVAC Service repairs furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners and ductless systems throughout Santa Cruz County, from Boulder Creek and Felton to Aptos and Soquel. We diagnose the problem, explain your repair options before starting, and give you an arrival window when you book.
CoolVantage HVAC Service travels from our San Jose base, about 20 miles away, to repair heating and cooling systems in Santa Cruz County. We work in the San Lorenzo Valley communities of Boulder Creek, Brookdale, Ben Lomond, Felton, Lompico and Zayante, in Scotts Valley, and in mid-county areas including Aptos, Soquel and Day Valley. Your furnace may not light, your heat pump may be blowing cold air, or your air conditioner may not keep up. In each case, we find the cause and explain your options before any work starts.
Heating and Cooling Problems We Repair
Most of our calls are for systems that have stopped working or are working poorly. We repair the equipment found in most Santa Cruz County homes:
- Gas furnaces that won't ignite, short-cycle, or shut off before the house warms up
- Heat pumps that blow cold air in heat mode, ice up, or run constantly
- Central air conditioners that run but don't cool, or that leak water
- Ductless mini-splits with error codes, weak airflow or drainage problems
- Thermostats, wiring and control boards that cause erratic operation
- Worn blower motors, capacitors, igniters and other parts
- Airflow problems from clogged filters, crushed ducts or blocked returns
Mountain and Mid-County Homes
Homes in the San Lorenzo Valley are often set into wooded hillsides, with equipment in crawl spaces, attics or tight side yards. Moisture and fallen debris can affect outdoor units, drain lines and venting. On a repair visit, we check those areas too instead of only replacing the failed part.
In Aptos, Soquel and Day Valley, we see a mix of older furnaces, newer heat pumps and add-on air conditioning. We'll tell you whether a repair makes sense for your system's age and condition, or whether it's time to start planning a replacement.
How a Service Visit Works
Santa Cruz County is about 20 miles from our shop, so we plan routes to group visits and give you an arrival window when you book. Please tell us about gated driveways, steep access or pets so the technician can reach your equipment safely.
- Describe the symptoms and your system type when you contact us
- The technician tests the system and pinpoints the cause
- You get a clear explanation and repair options before work begins
- We complete the approved repair and confirm the system runs properly
Repair or Replace?
If your system is near the end of its life, replacing it may make more sense than paying for repeated repairs. Keep in mind that the federal 25C tax credit only covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025, so it isn't available for new installations. Other incentives change by funding cycle, so we confirm what's currently offered before including it in any quote.
